Economy & Markets Our economic and market research serves as the basis for our assessment of the overall investment climate, and guides, to a large extent, the selection of the industries and companies that we follow. We appreciate the fact that investing cannot be done in a vacuum and that an understanding of the economy and markets is essential to recommending successful investments. Without this understanding, one might liken investing to sailing without knowing which way the wind is blowing. Barrington Research was originally founded to provide economic and market research to institutional investors. Although the breadth of our products has grown over the years, this top-down research is still an integral part of our research efforts. It provides an insightful backdrop for our institutional clients when making their investment decisions and for our many corporate clients for their business planning. Our ability to provide this top-down research is one of the characteristics that makes us unique from most other regional brokerage firms. Our top-down research process begins with an intensive and broad-based analysis of key factors affecting the economy, such as structural changes within the economy, secular trends and the current phase of the business cycle, resulting in our economic outlook. From this economic outlook, we develop a market strategy and identify those sectors and industries likely to be impacted, either positively or negatively, by the underlying economic conditions and trends. Our market strategy provides the bridge between our economic research and the implementation of specific investment recommendations. |
